How To Play Saxophone Subtone
Difficulty Rating - Moderate
How to Play Saxophone. Sub tone. It's that breathy sound you hear when players are usually playing low notes on a slow ballad. Take in less mouthpiece, play a low E and loosen off your embouchre slightly at the corners of your mouth. Essentially air is escaping from around the mouthpiece after going through the reed. This is best achieved on the lower notes and slow and gentle ballads. It's almost like you are playing the same note twice at the same time. A good amount of bottom lip on the reed will also help. You have the main note coming out of the sax and the sub note coming out of the mouthpiece. Not overly hard to get with adjustments to your embouchre. Not really to be used on higher notes though. Infact, pretty difficult to get on the higher notes.
