How to play the saxophone. Growling. Probably everybodies favourite saxophone sound and used widely in a lot of tunes.

Saxophone growling is not overly hard to achieve but it does take some practice for your brain to accept what you are trying to do.

It is best to start learning it without a saxophone in hand so put it down!

Form your embouchre and blow. Now hum. Now do both together. humming and blowing with embouchre formed.

Now pick up your saxophone and try it. Don't worry if you don't succeed first time. Take the saxophone away from your mouth and start again.

Perserverence is key here. Once you've done it once it will become easier and you'll be doing it forever. So practice and you will soon have a growling saxophone.

Growling in musical notation should be symbolised by the letters gr and wavy lines as above.

Growling is a great effect and easy to achieve but please don't over use it as it could become repetitive.
