Continuing our journey through Saxophone Music we come to a couple of saxophone songs that are oldies but goodies.
Take a trip back in time to era's when saxophone songs and saxophone solos were truly about laid back chill out music.
The first of the saxophone songs is Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet with sax by Paul Desmond. This is closely followed by some saxophone music by Coleman Hawkins. He chills us all out with Body and Soul and shows us why he is so highly rated as a saxophone player.
This is a gem. Another I try to emulate. But I confess I struggled with the keying until I found an alternate keying for Bb. I still can't play it as fast as I'd like but I will perservere and one day, who knows.
What can you say? The quality of playing is awesome and he makes it sound so easy. We should all aspire to be this good whilst appearing to be equally cool and laid back!
These two are saxophone music at it's best. I'm sure the majority of us, young and old budding saxophone players can easily appreciate this kind of saxophone music.
I could easily see myself in a jazz club right now listening to the smoothest of saxophone music. Possible smoking a cigarello and wearing dark glasses and a trilby. Don't know what a trilby is? Look it up!
Just who is the greatest? Is your favourite on there? If not let us know and we will add them
