Selmer Alto Saxophones
There are many Selmer saxophones around. The selmer alto sax is probably one of the most desireable saxophones around today. The pick of the bunch being any sax made by the Henri Selmer Paris manufacturers. Despite it's individual name it is part of the Conn-Selmer group but I believe they do still make their own saxophones. I've listed some the selmer alto saxes that I know of, some with years of manufacture. Prices vary wildy as with all saxophones so if you feel like you are in the market for one of these beauties do yourself a favour and look around. Price is generally an indicator of build quality, it doesn't always dictate that a more expensive sax will have better sound quality. By far the most expensive are the Selmer Paris saxophones but quality costs and theres no doubting the quality of the Selmer Paris range. (Except maybe the mark VII whose fingerngs were considered by many to be rather cumbersome) If you want a Selmer do your homework. For example the AS700 bears the Selmer name but it is actually made in China. This is reflected in the price which is about a tenth of the prce of a Reference sax. This doesn't mean it's a bad sax, just that it's targeted at entry level players with limited funds.

Remember, everyone has an opinion about saxophones. If you find a Selmer alto sax you like, check out others views. A prime example is the Mark VII. Badly received by many, but there are still people who happily play them and are happy with what they've got. I cannot emphasise enough that choosing and playing a saxophone is a highly individual thing. Just because John Smith down the road says it's rubbish doesn't mean he's right. However if the whole world is telling you the Selmer Saxophone you want to buy is a wrong'un you'd be as well to listen.
