Yamaha Alto Saxophone
The Yamaha Alto Saxophone must be one of the most commercially available saxophones around today. From the early 70's onwards the Yamaha Alto Sax made huge in roads onto the saxophone market and built a reputation for quality of build and quality of sound.Today their range excels whether it be the introductory YAS275 or YAS475 to the more targetted choice of a YAS875. At a time where the only real choice for a saxophone of quality was a Selmer, Yamaha stepped up to the plate and introduced the world to a viable and cheaper alternative. They currently offer alto saxophones to suit most pockets with their base model, the
Yas275,
being available for around £600. Their current range is as follows: Once you get to the professional level then the different variations begin to kick in. Mainly because once you are playing at a level that demands one of these saxes your ear will be able to tell the subtle differences that come from playing on an unlacquered sax as opposed to a lacquered sax or a silver plated sax. You will also begin to notice the responsiveness of the keying. Other models include the 21 series, 23 series, 61 series. If you find a Yamaha Alto sax that is for sale that is not in current production then this doesn't mean it is a bad sax. Yamaha don't make bad saxes. Progression means ranges will be discontinued all the time. Some people prefer to play the older models and as such never discount the chance of a possible bargain. So if you want to play Alto and you don't know where to start then a Yamaha Alto Saxophone may just need to be your first port of call.
